Hello, friends in the CF community,

I'm a colleague of John Bartelt's at the University of La Verne. I am the Program Director of the graduate Child Life program, wherein we prepare our students for careers as clinical educators who work with medically fragile children to help patients and families understand and cope with hospitalization.

I'm doing a general presentation on Monday (1/4/10) to college professors of all backgrounds and specialities, and would appreciate knowing your perspective about something before then, if you have the time and would be interested in giving me feedback.

I would love to know what you experienced (or are experiencing) in K-12 school, and even more importantly what you experienced (or are experiencing) in college as an adult with CF. Specifically, I want to know whether your professors were aware of your medical challenges, and if so, how understanding they were about that, how they dealt with you pertaining to those issues, and what you think any of them might have done to make your education an easier process.

I'll check back on this board on Sunday night. Any feedback, either here or privately at my email address, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for allowing me to use this forum to solicit feedback. I am hoping that your input will help us to better prepare educators to work with people who have medical issues.

Very Best,

Dr. Leslie Young
