Parent Club News

The February meeting will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2006. There will be a very important presentation by Gloria Prada, English Language Specialist, Hayward Unified School District. She will share her experiences on how parent involvement has a positive affect on student performance. Please plan to attend to help support our school.

Neighborhood Watch-

Schafer Park School has been experiencing an excessive amount of vandalism and graffiti occurring on the weekends. We need the help of our neighborhood families. A meeting will be scheduled soon to discuss how you can be of assistance. Your attendance at this meeting will be vital in helping to keep our school safe. Watch for flyers announcing the date and time. In the meantime, please be on the lookout for any suspicious activity and report it immediately to the Hayward Police or the WeTip Hotline 1-800-782-7463. Thank you.

General Mills Box Tops for Education

Please save any General Mills box tops and turn them in to your child’s classroom. Schafer Park benefits from this program and the money collected goes directly to the students. Thanks for your efforts in cutting and saving these small coupons.

Truant Students

Students are considered truant from school if they are absent without valid excuse on three (3) full or partial days, or tardy more than thirty (30) minutes on each of three (3) days or any combination thereof. If a student leaves school early for a medical appointment, the parent needs to provide the school with an appointment slip with name and date, so the time away from school can be excused. The appointment slip can be turned in after the appointment, so be sure to ask for it. Parents are encouraged to make appointments after school, but if the student leaves during school time they should return after the appointment to get credit for being in school as well as to pick up work for the day. If students leave because the parent has an appointment, that is considered unexcused and could contribute to the descriptions stated above. All absences need to be cleared within 48 hours or the student is considered truant.

School Board Presentation

At the Wednesday, February 8th School Board meeting, some of our own Schafer Park students will be demonstrating their abilities in Listening and Speaking. Please tune in or come to the meeting to lend them your support and encouragement.
