PANEL SUMMARY:
SUMMARY:
The general thrust of this proposal is to improve (upgrade
capabilities) an older, well-established electrical circuit-solving
program (SPICE), currently in widespread use.
The commercial potential for a demonstrably superior version of
SPICE is probably very large, based on the current level of activity.
STRENGTHS:
A need for continual improvement in program capability, speed and accuracy has been identified.
ú Any enhancement will increase productivity of circuit designers
and potentially benefit every company developing electronic circuits.
WEAKNESSES:
The possibility of locating better methodologies for achieving solutions to large-scale problems in older studies is remote.
Desirable characteristics associated with the current embodiment
of the program will not be necessarily preserved by the substitution of
a new computational technique.
SUGGESTIONS:
A careful examination of currently available numerical tools may
help to clarify what improvements could be made in existing algorithm.
A consultant for numerical methods might be a valuable asset for
